Course Overview
In this on-demand course, we will provide an update on the medical and nutritional approaches to complicated gastrointestinal diseases in the dog and cat. Discussions focused around esophageal, gastrointestinal, and pancreatic diseases will be led by experts in the field of anatomic pathology, gastroenterology, and nutrition. Each day will conclude with a clinically impactful summary of up-to-date research breakthroughs. The integration of nutrition throughout this course will provide a comprehensive experience for the attendee.

Learning objectives:
By the end of the course, you will be able to:
- Recognize important key words from gastrointestinal histopathology examination that may impact both diagnostic and treatment decisions.
- Develop a therapeutic strategy for aerodigestive disorders including gastroesophageal reflux disease, LES achalasia, and dysphagia-related aspiration syndromes.
- Explain the benefits and potential risks of stem cell therapy for the treatment of refractory enteropathies.
- Explain different characteristics of fiber sources and their impact on fiber-responsive disorders.
- Develop a strategy for diet selection in chronic gastroenteropathies including acquisition of diet history and comparison of macronutrient profiles in previously fed diets.
- Describe and discuss current topics in the diagnosis and management of canine protein-losing enteropathy including when to: perform an intestinal biopsy, implement nutritional management strategies, treat hypovitaminosis D, and use thromboprophylaxis.
