Large Animal Candidate Boot Camp
Course Overview
The 2026 Large Animal Candidate Boot Camp is an intensive, hands-on continuing education course designed for large animal internal medicine Candidates. Over 3.5 days at the University of Pennsylvania’s New Bolton Center, participants will combine focused lectures with practical laboratory sessions in cardiology, neurology, ophthalmology, clinical pathology, ultrasonography, bovine medicine, pain management, and advanced diagnostic procedures. The course emphasizes practical skills that participants can immediately apply in clinical practice.

By the end of the course, you will be able to:
1. Perform and interpret core large animal diagnostic procedures including echocardiography, CSF collection, myelography, and ultrasonography.
2. Develop practical clinical skills in ophthalmic procedures, muscle biopsy techniques, EKG interpretation, and bovine medicine procedures.
3. Apply advanced clinical reasoning to large animal internal medicine cases involving cardiology, neurology, endocrinology, hepatology, cytology, hematology, and acid-base disorders.
4. Recognize and manage pain, behavioral, and welfare concerns in large animal species using evidence-based approaches.
5. Integrate board-relevant diagnostic and therapeutic strategies into daily large animal clinical practice.

This program will be submitted (but not yet approved) for 27.50 hours of live, seminar/lecture and lab medical continuing education credit in jurisdictions which recognize AAVSB RACE-approval.
