Named in honor of Dr. William (Bill) Fenner's outstanding and dedicated service, the ACVIM William R. Fenner Early Career Award for Outstanding Service is awarded to a Diplomate exemplifying exceptional service in the College and/or their Specialty in a volunteer capacity within the first 10 years following Board-certification. The inaugural recipient will be named in 2023.
Dr. Jessica Ward obtained her DVM from NC State University in 2011 and completed her small animal rotating internship at The Ohio State University before returning to NC State for Cardiology residency. She is an Associate Professor at the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine, holds the Phyllis M. Clark Endowed Professorship in Cardiology, and was recently appointed as the Assistant Dean of Extramural Student Programs at Iowa State. Since becoming an ACVIM Diplomate in 2015, Dr. Ward has served as both member and Chair of the Cardiology Research Committee, the Cardiology Forum Subcommittee, and most recently served on the Cardiology Job Task Analysis Task Force. Dr. Ward has great impact on the training of new Diplomates as the Chair of the Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center (LVMC) House Officer Committee and LVMC Chief Medical Officer and has received several teaching awards in recent years, including the Zoetis Distinguished Veterinary Teacher Award and the Iowa State University Award for Early Achievement in Teaching. She is the inaugural recipient of the ACVIM William R. Fenner Early Career Award for Outstanding Service.
