The North American Neuroscience Course (Brain Camp), now assimilated into the ACVIM ACE program, will provide participants with advanced instruction in neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, electrodiagnosis, neuropathology, large animal neurology, neurosurgery and neuroradiology.  The course is intended to provide a foundation in these areas for those interested in both clinical and research applications. Lecture sessions will be both interactive and didactic.

Brain Camp consists of 3 separate modules:

1. Advanced Veterinary Neuroscience, August 3-7, August 10-14 – The primary module of Brain Camp, this 10-day course provides a foundation in a variety of veterinary neuroscience topics for those interested in both clinical and research areas. Lecture sessions incorporate a variety of teaching methods; including didactic and interactive.

2. Advanced Diagnostic Imaging, August 1-2 – Held the weekend prior to the Neuroscience course, this 2-day course is a comprehensive review of magnetic resonance imaging and other advanced imaging modalities used to evaluate the nervous system in veterinary patients. It is recommended the MR physics be reviewed prior to the course.

3. Advanced Veterinary Neurosurgery, August 15-16 –  Held the weekend after the conclusion of the Neuroscience course, this 2-day course provides an opportunity for attendees to practice advanced neurosurgical techniques under the guidance of expert neurosurgeons. This course utilizes short cases and conceptual presentations followed by hands-on skills labs on the most commonly used neurosurgical techniques. The labs allow for participants to learn and practice a wide variety of intracranial and spinal neurosurgical techniques. Specific procedures include: rostral and caudal fossa craniotomies, ventriculoperitoneal shunt placement; spinal fixation; partial corpectomy; and lumbosacral foraminotomy.

Additional information will be posted as it becomes available; check back regularly for updates.

The American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) is currently seeking sponsorship for the ACVIM North American Neuroscience Course (Brain Camp).  This program takes place once every four years in the United States, and is expected to draw approximately 180 residents, advance level clinicians, and neurologists from all over the world.
